In this class, we will practice techniques for more effective presentations while improving confidence in using English in public.
We will study how to communicate ideas effectively, how to persuade people, how to better organize presentations, and how to ask for, receive, and give feedback.

A. Policies: Active participation is extremely important in this class since the primary objective is for students to make use of their critical thinking tools. Being absent and tardy will affect final grade. Late assignments will not be accepted.
For the final class students will submit a presentation reflecting their understanding of English in media.

B. Reflection and Feedback: Students will be asked to periodically reflect on the class. .

C. Course Requirements (Major Assignments, Quizzes & Exams including Dates)
In order to be successful in this course, students will need to complete the following:
1. all classwork 10%
2. all homework assignments 60%
3. regular presentations 20%
4. final presentation 10%
Total 100%

To utilize the class environment your timely presence and participation are necessary.
Please keep in mind that frequent absences and late arrivals are disruptive and inconsiderate to the rest of the class.

As soon as you sign up for this class, do the following as soon as possible.
Do not wait until the first day of class. By then it will be too late.

1. GET A PERSONAL GMAIL ACCOUNT
To join this class online, you must have a personal GMAIL account. (Do not use your Ryudai email address.)

If you already have a personal GMAIL account you can go to the next step (2) below.

If you don't already have a personal GMAIL account, you can sign up for a personal Gmail account here:
https://www.google.co.jp/mail/help/intl/ja/about.html

Click on: アカウントを作成する
Note: If you are creating a new GMAIL account, you must give your REAL name is in ENGLISH, NOT Japanese.
Example:
Use FIRST NAME "Taro" then LAST NAME "Yamada" so your name on the GMAIL account will be "Taro Yamada"
Don't use a different order, such as "Yamada Taro" and don't use Japanese kanji, such as "山田太郎"
Also don't use nicknames or names that are not your real name.

2. GET GOOGLE CLASSROOM
a. Download Google Classroom application (アプリ) on your device (iPhone, laptop, etc.).
For a laptop (PC), you can also use the website:

b. Click on "join class" and ENTER THIS CODE (YOU SHOULD COPY/PASTE):

3. READ INSTRUCTIONS IN GOOGLE CLASSROOM
After you get access to the Google Classroom for this class, FIND the post titled: "この資料を初めに読んでください!READ ME FIRST!"
Read the instructions carefully, and follow the instructions exactly.
