授業内容と方法
This English language class is designed to help students develop their content knowledge, English language, and communicative competence important in academic and professional settings.

Students will be expected to participate actively in class activities and work closely with classmates regularly in pairs and in small groups to develop the following skills:

• SPEAKING: Discussions with a partner or group members, presentations on various topics.
• READING: Reading a variety of essays on contemporary issues.
• LISTENING: Listening to various aural materials such as daily conversations and university lectures.
• WRITING: Writing short essays in various genres based on on-line research

The class will be conducted primarily in English, and students’ effort to use English will be part of the course grade. Students are expected to participate actively and to the best of their abilities.
The use of information communication technologies (ICT) is an essential feature of this course. Students will be required to learn and master the components of cloud computing for education, such as how to use a computer, cloud storage, and productivity applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software

評価基準と評価方法
The term grade will be awarded on the basis of attendance, participation, completion of assignments, and observable improvement in students’ English communication skills as demonstrated through class activities throughout the course.
Students’ grades will be calculated in the following manner:
• 30% Homework & Class Activities
• 50% Writing Portfolio
• 20% Final Exam

Attendance is a basic requirement. Based on university regulations, students who miss 1/3 of the class, cannot get the credits for the course. In order to get a high grade for the class, students must attend class regularly, participate actively, and use English in class.

Active participation in class activities is dependent on preparation, i.e., timely completion of the homework assignments. If you do not do the assigned work / preparation, you will not be able to participate effectively or even at all.

Based on university regulations, grades will be calculated at a maximum of 100 points, and students must accumulate at least 60 points to pass the course. Those with a total score of less than 60 points and/or with 10 or more absences will fail the class.
• A = 90% and above
• B = 80-89%
• C = 70-79%
• D = 60-69%
• F = 59% or below (failing grade)

Active participation in class activities is dependent on preparation before class. If you do not do the assigned work (e.g., reading material selection and writing), you will not be able to participate effectively and may negatively affect the quality of the class experience for your classmates.

With sufficient preparation and regular practice, students will be expected to clearly demonstrate improvement in their writing communication abilities.
